About the Teacher
THE CARE AND EXPERTISE TO HELP STUDENTS AT ANY LEVEL
BACKGROUND
I hold a Master's degree in Organic Chemistry from the University of California, Berkeley and a Bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry from The University of Texas at Austin. My research has been published in several journals including The Journal of the American Chemical Society.
My career in the pharmaceutical industry spans research, patents, and medical publications. Having worked as a quality control chemist at Berlex Laboratories and a research chemist at Hoffman La-Roche, I am deeply familiar with the real-world application of chemical concepts.
Beyond the lab, I spent years refining the art of clear communication. Whether writing the scientific material for drug patents at Theravance Biopharma or managing medical publications at Ogilvy Healthworld, my role was to translate technical scientific data into understandable language.
Additionally, my experience as a copywriter and technical editor allows me to help students write and edit papers across any subject.
Throughout my corporate career, my success relied on communicating complex scientific matters clearly - a skill that I now find most rewarding when helping my students succeed in their classes.
TEACHING EXPERTISE
CREDENTIALS
With over 25 years of experience teaching chemistry at the university and secondary school levels, I have taught the levels of Regular, Honors, and Advanced Placement Chemistry with high accolades from students, parents, and faculty. It is wonderful to be able to connect with the students while challenging them with a college preparatory curriculum.
I have also been teaching at the university level for over 10 years and have tutored college students across the country.
I strive to always find new ways and tools to explain topics in an understandable way. I co-presented “Using Technology to Create Super Students” at the annual AISF Teaching & School Leadership Conference where I discussed how to use technology in the classroom to explain science in a clear and relevant manner.
To provide my students with the highest level of support, I regularly participate in continuing education workshops, staying current with the latest instructional techniques and AP Chemistry curriculum updates. This ensures my students are fully prepared for the specific demands of today’s classrooms and standardized exams.
